Shade Hadie is an emerging four piece Brisbane blues band. Inspired by 60s artists such as Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Canned Heat, Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, their music is a fusion of blues, jazz and vintage rock. With twin lead guitar, gravelly vocals and blues harmonica backed by drums, bass, brass and auxiliary percussion like bongos, marimba and cow bells, they create their own unique style of soulful, eclectic vintage-inspired music.

Shade Hadie unleashes youthful energy with their signature fusion of blues, rock and jazz and a throwback analogue sound channeling the spirit of the 60’s. Lead singer and guitarist Buddy Moyes delivers a powerful, gravelly voice that fluctuates between understated restraint and explosive raw energy. His vocals resonate with raw intensity, blending Howlin' Wolf's haunting grit and Tom Waits' jagged tones, intermingled with the classic blues sound of his harmonica. With intricate and unpredictable guitar solos by Moyes and fellow lead guitarist Oskar Thaw, backed by Michael Georgas on bass and the theatrical soundscape of percussionist Riley Sharp, the band create an electrifying, vibrant textured blend of improvised blues.

Since arriving on the Brisbane music scene in 2023, Shade Hadie have been captivating audiences with their unique mix of original tracks and reinvented covers of vintage rock songs and blues classics. Their performances at The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival in Winton and The Redlands Coast Blues Festival have fuelled their ambitions for the festival circuit, where they aim to share their exhilarating sound with the wider blues community.

"Shade Hadie are Brisbane's finest young blues group, their Tom Waits swagger totally appropriate for Bluesfest. As much as they take inspiration from their generic roots, they are also looking to a future where styles past and present blend in a cosmic melting pot. An exceptional band surely heading for bigger stages in 2025."

"So your humble BASEQ editor stumbled upon a group of four very young musicians who left me impressed. It wasn’t their youth, it wasn’t the use of vintage high powered guitar amplifiers played at a very comfortable volume but just dripping with tone. It wasn’t really even the choice of material they were playing. It was the feel of that material. It was the musical communication between the members on stage. It was like that they didn’t just play materials that would have been appropriate coming from the 1960’s Blues Explosion in the U.K., it was like they understood it at an intimate level – got inside the music, past the notes and rhythms – and had been doing it for years. And, at the time, they weren’t even 20."
~ Barry Beattie (Editor) BLUES ASSOCATION OF SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND (BASEQ), Sep 2023
From the BASEQ Article 'A local band to watch out for - Shade Hadie'

"Well, we have these young lads from the Western Suburbs. I've seen them play three times and every time I'm thinking, this is the beginnings of something really great. And everyone needs to get behind them to make that happen. I think their music speaks for themselves."
