Four-piece blues band Shade Hadie unleashes a raw, analogue sound steeped in the spirit of the 50's and 60’s. Drawing from Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters to Canned Heat, Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, they fuse gritty blues with vintage rock swagger.

Since arriving on the live music scene in 2023, Shade Hadie have been captivating audiences with their signature mix of original tracks and reinvented covers. Lead singer and guitarist Buddy Moyes delivers a powerful, gravelly voice that fluctuates between understated restraint and explosive raw energy. His vocals resonate with raw intensity, blending Howlin' Wolf's haunting grit and Tom Waits' jagged tones. With intricate, unpredictable guitar solos by Moyes and fellow lead guitarist Oskar Thaw, layered with Moyes' harmonica and backed by Michael Georgas on bass and the theatrical soundscape of percussionist Riley Sharp, the band create an electrifying, vibrant textured blend of improvised blues.

They've played at Mitchell Creek Rock 'n' Blues Fest, the Redlands Coast Blues Festival, were finalists in the 2025 Blues Association of South East Queensland's International Blues Challenge and played at the 50th Anniversary of "Nothin But The Blues" on 4ZZZ Radio.

Shade Hadie are passionate about instrumental improvisation and for the last two years, they've written and performed live original film scores at The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival in Winton, Queensland, to rave reviews - Stoned in 2024 and Wake In Fright in 2025. Blending their raw vintage analogue sound with iconic Australian films from the 70s has become a standout session of the festival - a gritty and immersive must see experience. In December 2025, they released their album "Live Sounds From The Royal Theatre", with a selection of music from Wake In Fright, recorded live at the Festival.

They first hit the recording studio in 2024, releasing their debut EP, Wax Figure Nativity. With 3 tracks and the single, A Head For A Tooth, the EP is a fusion of blues and experimental rock. In October 2025, they released their new single The Chicken, a reimagined version of a traditional blues song. They returned to their roots with The Chicken, delivering catchy, toe-tapping blues harp over a platter of gritty, raw percussion.

Now playing on 4ZZZ Radio and available on all streaming platforms. The release of "The Chicken" was featured on 4ZZZ Radio's Talkerspace with Cleo & Angie, where they headed into the studio to chat about their music, their inspirations and their new single "The Chicken".

You'll find Shade Hadie jamming at The Alligator Club (Fortitude Valley) and The Burrow (West End) every week and performing regular gigs at venues across Brisbane. Equally at home on the festival stage and immersive performance settings, in 2026 they're looking to perform at music festivals and venues both locally and beyond South East Queensland, where they aim to share their music with the wider blues community,

If you love gritty blues and vintage rock, you'll love Shade Hadie's authentic signature sound!

4ZZZ Talkerspace Interview

"These young guns step back in time, honing their own style of 60's inspired blues and roots! Over the last 12 months, they have been talked about as a band to watch out for - Shade Hadie is now very much a band you must see!"

~ ROD FLETCHER, Brisbane Gig Photographer, Aug 2025

"Shade Hadie are Brisbane's finest young blues group, their Tom Waits swagger totally appropriate for Bluesfest. As much as they take inspiration from their generic roots, they are also looking to a future where styles past and present blend in a cosmic melting pot. An exceptional band surely heading for bigger stages in 2025."
~ THE JUNK BAR, New Farm, Feb 2025

"So your humble BASEQ editor stumbled upon a group of four very young musicians who left me impressed. It wasn’t their youth, it wasn’t the use of vintage high powered guitar amplifiers played at a very comfortable volume but just dripping with tone. It wasn’t really even the choice of material they were playing.

It was the feel of that material. It was the musical communication between the members on stage. It was like that they didn’t just play materials that would have been appropriate coming from the 1960’s Blues Explosion in the U.K., it was like they understood it at an intimate level – got inside the music, past the notes and rhythms – and had been doing it for years. And, at the time, they weren’t even 20."
~ BARRY BEATIE, BASEQ EDITOR (Editor Blues Association of South East Queensland), Sep 2023
